It’s National Dental Health Month!
I honestly did not grow up with a good dental health education, so there’s a lot of thing I have only learned in the last five years. In fact, I didn’t even know about flossing until I had my braces in 2019. Gross, I know. But, in my defense, my family didn’t have a lot of money when I was young. I remember my mama flossing using literal sewing threads which made her gums bleed, and that was kind of traumatic.
Anyway, now that I know better, I am making it a point to pass on good oral care to my daughter. She loves a lot of sweet, but also at three and a half years old, all her teeth are still intact with no signs of decay.
Last January, Francis bought the three of us our first electric toothbrushes. At first, they were just for me and him, but our little girl saw them and wanted one for herself, too. So, of course, as parents who have her dental health on the top of our priorities, we got her her own electric toothbrush from our local Watson’s. The only rechargeable design was the red and blue Cars one, so that’s what we got. My biggest regret is not checking their online store because the same toothbrush was PhP 700.00 ($12) off!
Because Februaru is National Dental Health Month, here’s what we have observed since we started using electric toothbrushes:
Pros of Electric Toothbrushes
- (Almost) No More Struggle. When she was still using manual toothbrushes, it was a total struggle. Lots of times she would run around and sometimes she would cry. But since switching to an electric toothbrush, she volunteers to brush her teeth.
- 2-minute (or More) Brush Time. Sprout used to be really impatient when it comes to brushing. But now, she waits for the two-minute vibration before telling me to stop brushing her teeth.
- Cleaner Teeth. This is something Francis and I both noticed: our teeth are cleaner after brushing. We also get to reach ordinarily hard-to-reach areas.
Cons of Electric Toothbrushes
As awesome electric toothbrushes are, we also have negative thoughts:
- It can be a hassle if you forget to recharge it.
- The plug isn’t universal, so recharge it before travelling.
- It cleans so well that you mistakenly think you don’t need to floss anymore.
Where We Got Our Electric Toothbrushes
Francis’ and my toothbrushes were ordered on Shopee. Sprout’s was from our local Watsons at WalterMart. Here are the links:
